War StoriesAccomplishments
in Business Improvement Consulting, Facilitating, Teaching, and Coaching
include:
1.
Semiconductor equipment manufacturing client
committed to develop employees in Total Quality Management (TQM) and I was
contracted to make it happen. Developed
and implemented an applied learning delivery of process analysis Training.
Participants scored exceptionally high on final exam and rated education
experience as “well above average”. Coached TQM Teams in process improvement
projects. 100% of proposed process changes were approved by their executive
management. 2.
Coached newly formed process improvement team in
the reengineering of software test and release processes for the client above.
Cycle time was reduced by 90% and completed project was highlighted by SEMATECH
at Presidents Meeting as model of TQM implementation. I wrote and presented a
requested paper on the project to the 11th Annual BACUS Symposium on
Photomask Technology. 3.
Advanced Manufacturing Center of client
manufacturer of automated test equipment for semiconductor sector increased 300%
in size and revenues. Designed and Facilitated review and revision by global
management team of Management Technical Skills Development, and Material
Handling Systems and Processes to ensure continuous capability improvement. 4.
Dramatic growth had resulted in geographic and
operational disconnects in the client’s delivery of repair engineering
services to worldwide customers. Designed and facilitated analysis and revision
of U.S. and UK based Repair Engineering function to establish worldwide Repair
Engineering Organization. Seventeen system elements were identified and
established, ensuring optimized delivery of engineering service. 5.
Success in #4 above led to this project. Client’s
average turn-around-time (TAT) in the delivery of telecommunication system
components repair services was 35 days. Taught process analysis methods just in
time and Facilitated process improvement team’s analysis and improvements
implementation. In 9 months, dollar cost of defective product not returned from
field was reduced by 50%. TAT average was reduced to 15 days. 6.
Another project then followed #4 and #5. Capability
of client’s information management system had been improved piecemeal and had
not kept pace with corporation’s dramatic global growth. Consulted in Design
of analysis meeting and Facilitated analysis by members of international
management team. Specifications were developed in 11 MIS subject areas and
provided content for RFP subsequently released to competing vendors. 7.
Multinational client corporation aspired to deploy
a globally shared Total Quality mode of operation. Consulted with VP of Quality
in composition of process improvement plan subsequently implemented worldwide. 8.
Conflict at the intergroup and interpersonal levels
had brought production to a standstill in aerospace client’s operations.
Consulted with Division Managers in design of conflict resolution approach.
Facilitated Behavioral Contracting as foundation for successful and lasting
resolution, team development, and improvement action planning. 9.
Taught Quick Start/Quick Results Process
Improvement in 10 four-hour sessions to personnel of fasteners distributor
client. Then was retained for the next 18 months to catalyze process analysis
and capability improvement. Sales and Customer satisfaction climbed to
unprecedented levels. 10.
Contracted by semiconductor equipment manufacturing
client to introduce the Standardized Supplier Quality Assessment (SSQA) and the
Small Business Operating System (SBOS) quality standards to its supplier
companies. Contributed to successfully deploying this framework for Quality
improvement and On-Time Delivery achievement to numerous supplier companies in
that sector. 11.
Completed
operations analysis of numerous companies in a variety of industries. Used an
analysis by comparison approach to determine the discrepancies between
clients’ systems, processes, and practices and a “best in class” standard.
Presented documented findings and recommendations for improvement. Our
confidence in our ability to enter and orchestrate improvement in any complex
human activity system springs from doing so successfully in numerous
organizations. Client organizations have included: Avantek, Lockheed, Seagate,
SVG, PCBI, Plasma Materials & Technology, Santa Clara Office of Education,
Schlumberger Technologies, KLA Instruments, Applied Materials, 3COM, Lam
Research, KLA-TENCOR, Accurate Metals, Paradigm Metals, L & P Machine, HP,
The Olander Company, CJ Advisory, and assistance donated to Silicon Valley
school districts and non-profit organizations.
